Netflix is incredibly popular, so a Netflix for Apps might appeal to some people. This is not to say that Setapp is a bad idea. If Tumult needs more money and popularity, there’s an obvious way to accomplish that… I’m not about to join the beta to find out. What exactly does Setapp do to the desktop computer? Does it monitor usage? I don’t know. Maybe the percentage is based on popularity. Perhaps the developers get a different rate. I’m not really seeing how this helps Tumult in the long run.

I think it’s attractive only to “occasional” customers people who one day decide they want to do an animation and already have paid for the subscription in that toolbox.
